Thank goodness for books and the release of so many goodies in 2021. I think one of my most favourite things is even just the thought of a book, you know when you have a stack of books to look forward to! Well some of my favourite authors have new releases this year and there’s also some debuts which I can’t wait for so wanted to share with you my highly anticipated books of 2021 so you can look forward to them too and add some to your wish lists. First to mention is The Prophets by Robert Jones, Jr, his first novel and named one of the “Black Male Writers of our time”. This novel is actually already out as of 5th January 2021. It tells the story of two enslaved men, their intimacy and the danger that comes with it. Set in the Deep South. I think this will be tough but moving read.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Expected publication June 1st 2021

I was introduced to Taylor Jenkins Reid in 2019 when I read Daisy Jones and the Six in a few days. It was potentially the book that got me back into my groove of reading and I’ve since read more from her and not been disappointed which is why I am so excited for Malibu Rising. The novels I’ve read of hers so far tend to focus around glamorous Hollywood style characters and this new book is no different. I love diving into that world especially when set back in the 80s. Malibu Rising is about 4 famous siblings in 1983 and how one night at a party changes their lives forever. Secrets, love and Malibu. I can’t wait!

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
Expected publication February 2nd 2021

I’m currently reading my first Kristin Hannah novel, The Nightingale which is blowing me away. I’m so captivated by her writing, the story, the emotions. I feel so attached to it already and am so happy that I have more of her novels to read including her new release next month. The Four Winds is Kristen Hannah’s next new novel which looks to be full of courage, hope and heart breaking history again. Set during the Great Depression in America, the story follows Elsa from Texas and tough decisions she has to make to determine her destiny.

What Comes After by Joanne Tompkins

Expected publication April 13th 2021

One from Oprah’s highly anticipated books of 2021 and a debut. I read the blurb of this twice before deciding it was one for me. At first I wasn’t sure as anything that seems a bit dark and mysterious isn’t usually for me but this looks to also be about forgiveness and human connection. After the death of two teenage boys in the Pacific Northwest, grief tears lives apart until a mysterious pregnant 16 year old girl emerges out of the woods and it seems the mystery unfolds.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

Expected publication March 2nd 2021

Wow this sounds epic and about something I haven’t read anything about yet, Artificial Intelligence. This is Kazuo’s Ishiguro’s first novel since winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. Klara is an artificial being who longs to find a human owner. What does it mean to love? Already I’m intrigued.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

Expected publication July 20th 2021

When this was described as Mulan meets Song of Achilles I needed to not to read much more. I’m in. Another debut which always excite me; the thought of finding a new author that we can constantly look forward to reading more from much like Madeleine Miller. Shelley Parker-Chan first novel is set in China, in a famine-stricken village and follows two children given two fates. A boy, greatness. A girl, nothingness. But Zhu says “ I refuse to be nothing.”

I noticed I have no novels on the list by British writers or set in Britain so I’d love some recommendations from you for ones you are looking forward to? Leave a comment below.
