Your 2022 Summer Reading List

I recently spent a delicious ten days in sun soaked Mallorca and managed to devour some hearty must reads that I think you should add to your Summer book shelf. I do and often fail to not be led by “trends” when it comes to my reading list, I can't resist a hyped up debut or an Instagram worthy cover but I can assure you these books are totally deserving of their hype and sexy cover art.

I’ve also added in some others I’ve read this year that I think would make quite the beach or park read.

Send Nudes by Saba Sams

I’m loving short story collections at the moment and this debut is startlingly great. Saba Sams write about girlhood, unapologetically. Frighteningly relatable at times and shocking at others.

Ghost Lover by Lisa Taddeo

Almost like an extension of the short stories about girlhood, we are spoilt with this short story collection from Lisa Taddeo about womanhood. Woman-ness. Being a woman. Being. Lisa Taddeo does not hold back in her writing and for that I am grateful.

Ruth and Pen by Emilie Pine

A caring and raw debut fiction from Emilie Pine. She writes beautifully about difficult topics such as autism, young love, infidelity, IVF, miscarriage and healing. I fell in love with Ruth and Pen.

We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai

I stormed through this collection of true stories from refugee girls around the world with my eyes wide open and my heart breaking. An uncomfortable but important read.

Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors

Set in New York, we follow Cleo and Frank in their whirlwind complex relationship, their inner battles and the battles of those around them. The character development is so strong that these characters are stuck in my mind for evermore.

What A Shame by Abigail Bergstrom

The book you’ve been hoping for since “Everything I Know About Love”, this group of roomies are navigating adulthood, grief, break ups, make ups and finding themselves… (in the least corny way ever.)

Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley

Based on a true story set in Oregon about a sex worker who gets involved with the Police and not in a good way. Leila Mottley was seventeen when she started writing this and her poetic prose shows her older soul that I can’t wait to read more from.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation By Ottessa Moshfegh

A messy and unique story about a woman who takes a year out of life by self medicating her way into unconsciousness. I’ve not read anything like this and I loved it.
